The training ship JDS Kashima of the Japanese navy visited Antwerp for the first time. It is the flagship of the training fleet. JDS Kashima is making a world voyage via 13 countries together with the destroyers JDS Asagiri and JDS Setoyuka. While JDS Kashima was docked in Antwerp the two other ships visited the Hanse Sail in Rostock/Warnemünde, Germany. In 2000 the ship collided with the famous RMS Queen Elisabeth II in New York. The captain was able to laugh it away and was honoured to be kissed by the famous Queen.
