The German luxury cruise line Hapag-Lloyd Cruises announced on 17  March 2018 that they will christen their newest expedition cruise ship  MS HANSEATIC inspiration in Antwerp on October 13th 2019.
In August 2016 Hapag-Lloyd Cruises ordered two new luxury expedition  cruise ships at the Norwegian shipyard Vard. The frist ship that will be  delivered is MS HANSEATIC nature in April 2019. Six months later, in  October 2019 the almost identical sister ship MS HANSEATIC inspiration will  take to the sea.    Last year it already became clear that the first voyage, or maiden voyage, of  the ship will start in Antwerp. Today Hapag-Lloyd Cruises also officially  announces that the ship will also be christened in the city on Sunday  October 13th 2019. The company announced this big news in their large  promotion truck that was parked at the Zaha Hadidplein in front of the Port  House of Antwerp for the occasion. It is a big honour for Antwerp to be  able to organise this unique event. It will be the first time a sea cruise ship  is christened in Antwerp.
We have enjoyed many years of excellent collaboration with all of the city’s representatives and our choice of location for the  ceremony demonstrates our deep connection with Antwerp. The christening ceremony itself will be in the style of expedition cruising,  but it is too early for any details”, explained Karl J. Pojer, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.
MS HANSEATIC inspiration will focus on the international public. Apart from  German English will also be spoken on board. The maiden voyage of the ship  will take the passengers on a 16 days trip from Antwerp to France, Portugal,  Morocco and Madeira, to finally arrive in Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife.  After that the ships will sail further South to finally arrive in Ushuaia,  Argentina, the most Southern city in the world. With the city as operating  base MS HANSEATIC inspiration will sail a series of expedition voyages to the  Antarctic peninsula. Because the ship will be built with a strengthened hull  (Ice Class PC6) it will be able to manoeuvre between the ice and get to  places other ships cannot reach.
