L’Austral
is
part
of
the
fleet
of
the
French
cruise
line
Compagnie
Du
Ponant,
now
known
as
Ponant
for
short.
The
ship
was
built
in
2011
at
the
Italian
shipyard
Fincantieri
and
is
the
second
of
three
newbuilds,
all
were
designed
to
resemble
luxurious
yachts.
Just
like
her
sister
ships
Le
Boréal
and
Le
Soléal,
L’Austral
is
an
expedition
cruise
ship
that
was
designed
with
a
strengthened
hull
to
be
able
to
sail
in
the
Arctic
and
Antarctic
regions.
The
ship
sails
under
the
French
flag
and
the
on
board
language
is
also
mostly
French.
