AIDAcara
AIDA Cruises
The
AIDA
(later
AIDAcara)
is
the
very
first
ship
of
the
AIDA-fleet,
and
the
second
ship
of
AIDA
Cruises
that
comes
to
Antwerp.
With
building
and
delivering
the
AIDAcara
in
1996
the
'Clubship-concept'
was
born.
In
the
beginning
it
was
waiting
to
see
if
this
free-to-do
concept
was
going
to
do
well
with
the
cruisepassengers.
But
it
was
a
big
succes.
In
2002
and
2003
two
new
ships
were
launched:
the
AIDAvita
and
AIDAaura.
With
the
delivery
of
these
two
ships
the
name
AIDA
was
changed
to
AIDAcara.
Last
year
the
AIDAlbu
had
the
honour
to
open
our
cruise
season,
this
year
the
AIDAcara had it.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 29 March 2011.
AIDAsol
AIDA Cruises
For
the
second
year
in
a
row
AIDA
Cruises
comes
to
Antwerp
with
a
brandnew
ship.
Last
year
it
was
the
AIDAblu,
and
this
year
the
AIDAsol.
The
ship
was
christened
on
the
9th
of
April
in
Germany.
The
ship
has
a
length
of
252
metres
and
can
accommodate
2500
passengers.
The
AIDAsol
is
almost
an
exact
copy
of
the
AIDAblu. The AIDAsol will call 2 times at Antwerp this year.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 29 April 2011.
AIDAblu
AIDA Cruises
Last
year
this
ship
was
already
docked
8
times
in
Antwerp.
This
year
the
AIDAblu
visits
Antwerp
a
total
of
7
times.
AIDAblu
is
the
4th
AIDA-ship
that
has
been
built
at
the
Meyer
Werft
shipyard
in
Germany.
On
the
outside
the
ship
is
an
exact
copy
(apart
from
the
lifeboats)
of
the
AIDAsol.
The
AIDAblu
has
a
length
of
252
metres
and
can accommodate 2500 passengers.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 10 May 2011.
Ocean Princess
Princess Cruises
The
exterior
of
this
ship
is
the
same
as
that
of
the
Azamara
Journey
from
Azamara
Club
Cruises
and
the
Insignia
from
Oceania
Cruises.
This
ship
is
also
one
of
the
eight
Renaissance-sisters
that
were
sold
to
different
cruise
lines
after
the
cruise
line
went
bankrupt.
Princess
Cruises
has
already
visited
Antwerp
with
several
ships:
for
example
the
Pacific
Princess,
Royal
Princess,
Island
Princess,
...
The
ship
has
a
length
of
181
metres
and can accommodate 700 passengers.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 21 July 2011.
Silver Cloud
Silversea Cruises
This
ship
from
the
luxurious
cruise
line
'Silversea
Cruises'
has
been
in
Antwerp
before.
The
156
metres
long
ship
can
accommodate
315
passengers.
The
ship
has
a
very
special
shape.
The
front
view,
above
the
bow,
has
large openings for balcony cabins. The ship also has a sister ship: the Silver Wind.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 27 July 2011.
The World
Residensea
This
ship
is
not
a
normal
cruise
ship.
On
the
ship
you
find
full-equiped
appartments.
The
World
cruises
the
whole
year
around
the
world.
You
just
buy
an
appartment
on
the
ship
and
you
can
sail
on
it.
The
appartments
are from 27m² to 360m². The price for an 130m²-appartment is between 600.000 Dollar and 13,5 million Dollar.
And
each
year
the
appartment
costs
you
also
another
300.000
Dollar
for
cleaning,
...
The
ship
has
a
length
of
196 metres and can accommodate 700 passengers.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp from 15 until 17 August 2011.
Deutschland
Peter Deilmann Reederei
Finally
the
MS
Deutschland
docked
again
in
our
city.
The
famous
ship
from
the
german
televisionserie
'Das
Traumschiff'
has
the
title
'5
stars-Superior'.
Normally
only
hotels
on
land
get
this
title.
It
is
the
only
ship
that
sails
under
the
German
flag.
The
ship
had
to
come
3
times
to
Antwerp
this
year
but
it
only
came
2
times.
One
time
it
was
cancelled
because
of
a
refurbishment
of
the
ship.
And
one
of
the
2
times
it
was
in
Antwerp
it
docked
in
Antwerp
Ship
Repair
for
some
problems
with
the
bowthruster.
The
ship
has
a
length
of
175
metres
and
can
accommodate 613 passengers.
This ship was berhed in Antwerp on 22th August 2011.
Marco Polo
Cruise & Maritime Voyages
In
2011
Marco
Polo
will
visit
Antwerp
a
total
of
3
times
in
2011.
The
ship
was
built
in
Germany
in
1965
as
Aleksandr
Pushkin.
This
ship
has
a
length
of
176
metres,
can
accommodate
560
passengers
and
is
part
of
the
fleet of the English company Cruise & Maritime Voyages.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 29 August 2011.
Europa
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises
The
best
cruise
ship
in
the
world
(according
to
Berlitz
Cruise
Guide
for
Cruising
and
Cruise
Ships)
was
docked
in
Antwerp
again.
Last
year
the
ships'
call
was
cancelled
for
some
reason.
The
Europa
has
got
5+
stars
and
has
a
crew-passenger
ratio
of
1-2.
This
means
that
for
every
2
passengers
onboard
there
is
a
crew
member.
The
ship
is part of the fleet of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. Later this year MS Bremen will also visit Antwerp.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 1 September 2011.
Balmoral
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
The
Balmoral
has
a
length
of
218
metres
and
is
part
of
the
fleet
of
Fred.
Olsen
Cruise
Lines.
Last
year
the
ship
had
to
visit
Antwerp
but
was
cancelled.
The
Balmoral
is
the
largest
ship
in
the
fleet.
Before
Fred.
Olsen
the
ship
sailed
for
Norwegian
Cruise
Line.
During
the
maintenance
for
entering
the
Fred.
Olsen-fleet
the
ship
was
stretched by 30 metres. Due to this extension the ship could carry 163 passengers more.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 3 September 2011.
Bremen
Hapag-Lloyd Expedition Cruises
This
111
metres
long
ship
is
part
of
the
Hapag
Lloyd
Cruises-fleet.
The
ship
sails
most
of
the
time
expedition
cruises
in
Antarctica,
the
Amazone,
Iceland
and
Spitsberg/Svalbard.
The
Bremen
can
accommodate
185
passengers
and
has
95
crewmembers.
It
has
been
built
in
1990
in
the
Mitsubishi
Heavy
Industries-yard
in
Japan.
This ship has berthed in Antwerp on the 30th of September 2011.
Marco Polo
Cruise & Maritime Voyages
The
Marco
Polo
has
a
length
of
176
metres
and
can
accommodate
650
passengers.
Due
to
a
storm
at
sea
the
ship
made
an
extra
stop
at
Antwerp.
The
planned
call
of
10
December
was
made
one
day
earlier
on
9
December.
Marco
Polo
visits
Antwerp
to
give
the
passengers
the
change
to
explorer
the
Christmas
market.
This
year the farers wheel is one again included in the market.
This ship was berthed in Antwerp on 6 December 2011.
Boudicca
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines
The
MS
Boudicca
and
Marco
Polo
berthed
together
in
our
city.
The
Boudicca
was
welcomed
with
typical
Belgian
weather:
rain.
The
two
ships
were
berthed
bow
to
bow
.
It's
very
special
that
two
cruise
ships
are
at
the
same
time
in
Antwerp.
Normally
the
maximum
is
one
cruise
ship.
The
Marco
Polo
departed
again
at
5
p.m.
The
Boudicca stays berthed until the 19th of December. With these calls the cruise season was ended.
The Boudicca was berthed in Antwerp on 18 & 19 December 2011 (together with Marco Polo).
